Miriam Smith is a highland artist, working in a variety of media but predominately watercolour, loving its fluidity, freshness and unpredictability—properties which she feels are echoic of Scotland itself. Many of her paintings feature the ever-changing sea, mysterious woods or the tiny, yet bold wildflowers that colour the countryside. She paints spontaneously, preferring not to over plan so that she can work with the medium rather than try to restrain it and by maintaining element of experimentation within her work, so that the painting continues to be an adventure and quite simply, a joy.
